The Best Beach Games for Adults – Fun In The Sand

Think playing on the beach is just for the kids? You couldn’t be more wrong! There’s no reason the young ones should have all the fun, as there are plenty of beach games for adults that will make your time at the beach even more enjoyable. Here’s ten of the best beach games for adults you can consider.

1. Volleyball

As a beach classic, volleyball is sure to bring you hours upon hours of fun. The game is easy enough to be played by people of all athletic abilities, and you can play with as little as four people (two on each team).

All you need to get started is a net and a ball. The objective of the game is to send the ball over the net to the opposing team’s side, where they will attempt to hit it back. If they fail and the ball touches the ground, you get a point.

Beach volleyball has some other rules too (it is an Olympic Sport, after all), but if you’re playing casually, this is pretty much all you need to know!

2. Kan Jam

Kan Jam is a great way to play frisbee on the beach if your space is limited. To play this game you will need one flying disc, two scoring containers and at least four players if you want to keep score (however, you can also play with two people just for fun!).

To start the game, the two scoring cans should be placed 50 feet apart and one player should stand behind each container. The aim of the game is to throw the disk into the container on the opposite end. Your teammate standing at this container can help you get it in, by deflecting the disk into the container. The amount of points you get will depend on how the disk makes its way into the container.

Sound complicated? This diagram on Kan Jam’s website makes it really easy to understand, so have a look!

3. Beach Tennis

If you’re looking for a challenging, yet fun beach game, tennis is the way to go! There’s a reason beach tennis has been around since your grandmother went to the beach in a swimsuit––it is just that fun!

All you’ll need to play is two rackets and a ball, which you’ll be able to buy at almost any seaside store.

4. Musical Towels

Are you a fan of musical chairs? Then why not add it to your beach games list as well? All you have to do to start playing is put a bunch of towels in a circle and play some music!

You’ll be surprised how lively this beach game can get as you and your friends fight to sit down on the available towels when the music stops. Luckily, because you’re playing on sand, the landing will be soft!

5. Bucket Relay

If you have a lively group of friends, a relay race is the perfect way to make your day at the beach more exciting.

To play, divide into teams and place two buckets about 100 feet away from the water. Each team should also have a paper cup. The team members must then take turns to run to the ocean, fill up their cups and dump the water into their bucket. The first team whose bucket overflows wins!

6. Tidal Ball

TidalBall is a combination of cornhole, bocce ball, and horseshoe, making it the perfect beach game for kids and adults.

To play, divide into two teams. Each team has three TidalBalls of the same color; all six TidalBalls begin on the same side. The first team begins by rolling or throwing a TidalBall at the opposing hole and trench. Each player will take alternative rolls until six TidalBalls have been tossed. You get three points if you get your ball in an opposing hole and one point if it’s in a trench. The scoring is totaled each round by cancel-out scoring. Play continues with the opposing side taking their turn, with the team scoring most recently throwing first. New rounds continue until a team reaches a total of 21 points.

7. Sand Darts

Think your aim is on point? Then this is the beach game for you. To play sand darts, draw a circle in the sand with concentric circles inside it, like a dart board.

Players then take turns throwing pebbles or sea shells at the circle trying to get their dart as close as possible to the centre. You can develop your own points system and keep score, or simply keep playing until someone hits the bullseye.

8. Frisbee Bowling

A frisbee is a classic beach toy you probably already have at home. So why not take it along next time you head to the beach to make your day a bit more exciting?

You can opt to just toss it back and forth, but there are also a range of other games you can play––like frisbee bowling, for example. In frisbee bowling you will set out some empty drink bottles at one end of the beach and then toss the frisbee towards them, trying to knock as many down as possible.
